Dear Everyone,
This week we are reading Chapter 3 of “The Way of a Pilgrim.” I’d like us to reflect on the nature of simplicity. Pilgrim’s life has become very simple as he journeys towards his goal. I’m wondering about how we can simplify our goals and our lives as part of a spiritual discipline, and what that simplification might look like.
I’m also reflecting on the Pilgrim’s need for solitude. This could be considered part of his simplified life, or maybe it’s a means to simply his life. I’m still pondering this.
I want to thank everyone who is reading along with me this Lent. And thanks to everyone who is taking the time to post comments and reflections. I’ve learned a great deal from you all and I’m looking forward to learning more.
Peace be with you all,
SR

Hi SR
When we re-located to the UK last year, we had to downsize and gave ALOT of material things away to charity. We now live in a lovely but much smaller house – BUT – it has everything we need. Thinking about it now we helped many in the need, and also simplified our lives by giving away all our excess things, that at the end of the day we obviously didn’t need them, as we are certainly not missing them.
The Pilgrim is teaching us a lesson that you can live a good simple and fulfilled life without all the baggage.
Peace be with you SR ❤️

Thanks very much, Franca. This is a good reminder that the simplifying of our lives isn’t just about a prayer practice, it can be about things. Possessions can be a burden and it’s somehow freeing to give things away to good causes. (But I confess I can’t give away books. At least, not yet) Peace be with you, Franca. SR
